The story

Mouse ran to his strawberry patch before breakfast. He stopped. His biggest, reddest strawberry was GONE.

"Mouse! MOUSE!" Dog came bounding through the leaves. "My squeaky ball vanished in the night — and I sniffed EVERYWHERE!"

They searched the soft dirt together. Tiny hoofprints! And caught on a twig — one shiny PURPLE thread.

Two detectives, one mystery! How should Mouse and Dog investigate first?

What happens next?

  • Follow the hoofprints!
  • Ask the garden birds!

The hoofprints trotted past the pumpkins and stopped at the tall fence. High on a nail fluttered a scrap of purple cape!

"At sunset," cheeped the sparrows, "a CAPED someone leaped right over the garden — WHOOSH! Like a tiny flying shadow!"

A mysterious caped stranger, right here in the garden! Mouse felt his whiskers tingle. This was a REAL mystery now.

How do you catch a mysterious caped stranger?

What happens next?

  • Stay up and watch the garden!
  • Set out a tasty muffin and hide!

That night they hid under a big leaf and watched. At midnight — WHOOSH! A small caped shape leaped the fence, pulling a tiny wagon.

They set Mouse's best sunflower-seed muffin on a stone and hid. Soon a caped figure tiptoed up, whispered "Another lost treasure!" — and scooped it up.

Quiet as whiskers, they followed the caped shape all the way to the old hollow oak behind the shed. A soft golden light glowed inside.

Inside the oak was a secret room. And on tiny shelves sat EVERYTHING — the strawberry, the squeaky ball, marbles, a button, a blue mitten. All safe. All sorted.

Someone is humming a hero song just around the corner. What should the detectives do?

What happens next?

  • Knock politely and say hello!
  • Leap out like detectives!

"Hello?" said Mouse, knocking politely. "EEK!" The stranger jumped so high his cape flipped over his face, and he wobbled in a circle.

"PAWS UP, MYSTERY GUEST!" boomed Dog. The stranger squeaked, spun around twice, and fainted dramatically into a pile of soft leaves.

The stranger struck a mighty pose. "I am... MASKED PIG! Defender of the garden! Rescuer of lost treasures! Protector of snacks!"

Masked Pig explained: he found treasures lying all alone and rescued them, to keep them SAFE. But his ears slowly drooped. "I never figured out... how to find their owners."

Masked Pig looks embarrassed. What should Mouse say to him?

What happens next?

  • Gently tell him the truth
  • Give him a NEW hero mission!

"The treasures were not lost," said Mouse gently. "They were LOVED. Everyone misses them." Pig gasped. "Then I have been a very CONFUSED hero!"

"Masked Pig," said Mouse seriously, "the garden needs a hero RIGHT NOW. A hero who can return every treasure to its owner." Pig's eyes went wide and shiny. "A RETURNING mission!"

So Mouse, Dog and Masked Pig loaded every treasure into the little wagon. Three friends. One mission. The Great Return was ON.

The wagon is full and the sun is rising. How should the three heroes return the treasures?

What happens next?

  • Throw a Lost-and-Found party!
  • Secret hero deliveries at dawn!
  • Build a Lost-and-Found station!

They spread a big picnic blanket and set out every single treasure. Dog barked the news to the WHOLE garden!

One by one, every animal found their missing treasure and CHEERED. Masked Pig took a deep bow. "Best rescue ever," whispered Mouse. And it really, truly was.

At first light they crept from door to door. Dog sniffed out every owner. Mouse matched every treasure. Masked Pig delivered each one with a silent hero roll.

The garden woke to happy gasps everywhere. "My ball!" "My marbles!" Nobody ever knew who did it. But on the fence sat three quiet heroes, watching the sunrise — and smiling.

They returned everything — and then built something NEW. A Lost-and-Found stump! Mouse made shelves. Dog tested the squeaky alarm. Masked Pig hung his cape as the flag.

Now nothing in the garden stays lost for long. Masked Pig guards the stump every day — a REAL hero at last. And every afternoon, two best friends visit with snacks.
